Indiana
was built by Pete Dye in 1964. The story goes that walking over the
uncompleted back nine; Dye picked up a gnarled stick and swung it at some
stones. The likely beginning of a game was the inspiration for the name
"Crooked Stick Golf Club."
"August of 2006 brought a prolonged period of hot and humid weather that left a few of our greens at Crooked Stick under tremendous stress," explained Kirk Richmond, Superintendent at Crooked Stick Golf Club. "The micro-environment of these particular greens is less favorable than the rest. Within discussions with Pete Dye and the greens committee, a decision was made to purchase fans to help promote air flow to the stagnant environment. TurfBreeze was highly recommended to us for their excellent product and customer service and we have found that recommendation to be true."
Richmond contacted TurfBreeze and a site visit was made to plan fan location and the installation process. "Communication between TurfBreeze and I was never ending until the installation process was complete," praised Richmond.
Operating his TurfBreeze fans 24 hours per day when night temperatures reach 68 degrees, Richmond extols, "What once was a stressful environment became not as severe. A reactive situation in the past is now a proactive one."
